Spent the weekend in NYC & came away thinking:
- For how much I jokingly bash the place, I really need to visit more often and learn my way around so my banter won't be so uninformed. This will have to include an eventual trip to Yankee Stadium.
- I feel the same way about Yankee Stadium as I do about the movie Ferenheit 9-11: I want to take in their entertainment & understand their side of te argument, but I can't allow myself to financially support the "enemy".
- For all the times I've heard New Yorkers brag about their wonderful grid system, I saw a number of diagonal streets, & at one point I was on 4th Street, but I was North of 11th. That being said, I'm a fan of hazing in general, & I like when it takes a while to learn your way around a place, b/c I know it's something I could eventually pick up & hold over newbies. Boston's great for this.
- I always hear about the quick pace of life in NYC, but I found most pedestrians moving agonizingly slow. Maybe this is because of all the tourists, or b/c I only saw a weekend, but I definitely wouldn't say I saw hustle & bustle.
- Their pizza is unbelievable.
- It's much more fun to be surounded by Yankees hats when the Sox have a commanding lead in the A.L. East.
- Taking the train in & out from Boston is downright delightful. I hadn't known so much of the track is along the coast. The rails seem to occupy real estate that would be incredibly valuable if it were zones residentially, but it makes for a very pretty ride.
- It seems like Central Park is your only option for outdoor exercise. Maybe I'm wrong, but is think that would get really old.
- There is a stench if hot garbage that pervades a lot of the area. Boston's not exactly one big rose garden, but NY is absurd. I could never live around that, & I don't even have a great sense of smell.
Overall, I'm really glad I went, & if love to visit again soon, but I remembered why I decided long ago never to spend more than 2 days in a row in this place, even if there are a million fun things to do.
